Why Should You Consider Sedation Dentistry In Long Beach, CA?

With sedation, you can believe your dentist when they say: “you won’t feel a thing!” Have you been delaying your visit to the dental clinic for a routine dental check-up? Does the thought of a dentist and dental treatment trigger anxiety in you, and you would rather endure the painful toothache than visit the dentist? Well, you are not alone. A majority of the population suffers from dental phobia, the fear of visiting a dental clinic. This prevents them from seeking dental help when needed. However, due to accentuated anxiety and fear amongst patients, dentists worldwide came up with the solution to make dentistry pain-free and fear-free with sedation dentistry. What Is Sedation Dentistry? Things You Should Know Relax in the dental chair and not feel anything during your dental treatment; a dream come true! Avoiding the dentist is not a sane thing to do. It will only lead to a plethora of dental problems. The biggest favor you can do to your dental health is seeking help from a dentist and discussing your fears with them. This can help you discover many options like sedation dentistry to help relax your mind and evade the tension related to dentistry. Sedation dentistry, or sleep dentistry, uses medications to help the patient relax in the dental chair, alleviating their fear and anxiety. The term sleep dentistry can be a little misleading, as the patient is usually fully awake during the dental treatment, except when they opt for general anesthesia. There are several types of sedation dentistry, and you can always discuss with your dentist the best option for yourself.

Types Of Sedation Dentistry You do not have to fear the dentist; untreated dental problems in your mouth are scarier. With the ever-changing advancements and innovations in dental treatments, dentistry has come a long way. It is not as painful as it used to be because people are more aware of the healthcare system and the options to go through a painless treatment. Sedation offers different levels of consciousness, some of which allow the patient to stay wide awake while the ones who are incredibly phobic may choose to remain unconscious throughout. Whichever the case, the patient will not feel a thing. Minimal Sedation: The patient stays wide awake and is entirely aware of the dental procedure Moderate Sedation: The patient remains conscious, however, they may have slurred speech for a while and not remember much of the dental procedure Deep Sedation: The patient is unconscious but can hear things, aware of the surroundings, and easily awakened General Anesthesia: The patient is completely unconscious With different levels, sedation dentistry has different types based on the mode of entry of the medication into the body, and the choice usually depends on the level of anxiety the patient has. Inhaled Sedation: As the name suggests, the patients “breath-in” the sedative gas, nitrous oxide, or laughing gas in this case. This offers minimal sedation. The dentist can control the level of sedation by making the patient inhale again if the effect of the gas starts to wear off. Oral Sedation: This is the most common type of sedation used in dentistry. The dentist prescribes a pill to the patient and advises them to have it an hour before the procedure. The dosage induces minimal to moderate sedation allowing the patient to stay awake but makes them highly drowsy. IV Sedation: In this method, the sedative drug is directly administered into the vein and is the quickest method offering moderate sedation. IV sedation allows the dentist to adjust the dose of sedation continually. General Anesthesia: In this method, the patient is partially or entirely unconscious; it would not be wrong to say that the patient goes into a peaceful deep sleep and will only be awakened after the effect of anesthesia completely wears off.

How Safe Is Sedation Dentistry? Dental sedation has been declared safe by the American Dental Association when administered by authorized and licensed dental practitioners. However, there are few side effects such as mild headache, drowsiness, and nausea; therefore, once sedated, the patient should not be allowed to drive or go home alone as the sedative effect takes some time to wear off except for nitrous gas. It is not safe to have them walk out of the dental clinic while under sedation. A few people are not suitable candidates for sedation dentistry and should always consult their doctors and consent before undergoing sedation dentistry or other dental procedures. Obese people People suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea People who suffer from serious medical complications Why Should You Consider Sedation Dentistry? Life is all about choices; make the good ones for a pain-free, fear-free dental treatment. It is recommended to visit your dentist for regular check-ups and dental exams twice yearly to maintain excellent oral hygiene and avoid dental problems. So, to experience a painless dental procedure and go to your dentist happily and non-anxious every time, here are some reasons to consider sedation dentistry: *It is a safe and minimally invasive procedure, with only a needle prick when opting for IV sedation or general anesthesia. *It helps the patient relax in the dental chair, even those with a fidgety or tensed body, and undergo stress-free dental treatment. *It allows people with disabilities to sit still in the dental chair for the allocated time for the procedure. *It allows the patient to develop an anxiety-free dental care routine by alleviating the fear of visiting the dental clinic. *It reduces any traumatic memories of a complex dental procedure as the patient does not remember much afterward. *It can aid in reducing the gag reflex during the procedure, . It Is Time To Say Goodbye To Your Dental Fears! Apart from all the benefits, sedation dentistry is ending the stigma and fear related to dentistry worldwide and improving dental care standards. Sedation dentistry is helping people take care of their oral health in a better way because sedation dentistry is making the world a better place, one smile at a time!
