Teeth Straightening

Should I Get Braces Or Invisalign?

Invisalign, which is also called clear aligners, is an orthodontic appliance that is used as a medium to correct misaligned and crooked teeth. On the other hand, braces are also orthodontic devices in the form of brackets that are placed on the tooth surface that are used to align teeth that are disarranged and have been so from birth or after the person suffers from trauma. They are also used to fix gaps and diastemas that are present between the central incisors. With different orthodontic appliances come some pros and cons. While braces are better and sturdier, they are not as aesthetically appealing as clear aligners. Reasons To Get Clear Aligners And Braces There are many reasons as to why a person would require clear aligners or dental braces at any stage of their life. They are as follows: -When the teeth are crowded, that is when the teeth overlap each other -Overbites, when the teeth in the upper arch protrude outwards over the lower arch teeth -Underbites, when the lower arch teeth overlap the front teeth -Diastema, a gap that is present between the upper central incisors -Open bites, when the upper arch does not touch the lower arch teeth -Misaligned primary (deciduous) teeth

Should We Consider Braces Or Clear Aligners? Nowadays, people usually prefer to go with something that gives off natural color and that does not stand out too much, but they also prefer those that are resilient and have a longer life span. So many prefer clear aligners, while most opt for traditional metal braces. Clear aligners and braces are the two most popular options that are available in the field of cosmetic dentistry that is used to straighten teeth. As both of these orthodontic appliances are FDA-approved and give stunning results, we can never be so sure as to which is better and why. When a person chooses between these two options, they always weigh the pros and cons of each before going on ahead with the purchase. Here are the advantages and disadvantages that help us decide which one is better: Benefits Of Clear Aligners Here are some of the advantages that clear aligners provide us with: -Appearance: When compared with metal braces, esthetic wise, they are more appealing. They fit so closely to the patient’s teeth that they are barely even visible to the onlookers. In this design, most people prefer to use clear aligners over traditional metal braces. -Comfort: Clear aligners are smooth in texture and do not have any sharp or rough edges that may cut the gums and cause bleeding. -Ease of brushing and flossing: When using clear aligners, the patient can easily remove them and proceed with his normal brushing and flossing routine. -Ease of chewing food: People that use clear aligners do not have to remove them if they might fracture the device. They can just remove it and eat whatever they like. Drawbacks Of Clear Aligners With every device, there are present some shortcomings which are as follows: -Not for complex procedures: They are not recommended to patients that have a severe case of mal-positioned teeth. They are only used for minor teeth straightening. -Requires consistent wearing: If a person does opt for clear aligners, they are instructed to wear them for 20 to 22 hours minimum. Wearing them any less than this time will slow down the progress or even bring harm to the final results. This can only be done by people that are disciplined and that have a sense of duty instilled in them. This is not a suitable option for children. Benefits Of Braces There are also many advantages that metallic or ceramic braces present to us. Some of them are as follows: -Used for complex procedures: Braces are a universal treatment that works for minor to complex cases. Despite difficult circumstances, braces produce an incredible smile since they adhere directly to each tooth. -Not easily removed: With this comes no responsibility that you might break them or get them misplaced. They are not easily removable by the person and can only be removed by the orthodontist. This straightforward treatment plan is the best option for kids and teens. -Easier for drinking: Braces do not stain and are heat resistant. So the patient is free to drink all kinds of hot drinks like coffee and tea. They also do not have to worry about getting the clear aligners stained. Drawbacks Of braces The disadvantages of wearing braces are as follows: -Discomfort: Braces are not the most comfortable option there is, they need time to get used to and cause small cuts to the gums that ultimately lead to injury and bleeding. -Appearance: The traditional metallic braces are easily visible to others and thus are not the best option when looking for esthetics. -Food Limitations: Foods that may get stuck in braces, such as gum, bagels, hard candy, and popcorn, should not be eaten by people with braces.

FAQs -Is Invisalign As Good As Braces? Braces can achieve a better result than Invisalign. Braces have more force to move teeth into the desired position. Invisalign is limited in terms of how many teeth can be moved at a time, but in the end, it depends on what the patient prefers. -Which Is Faster Braces Or Invisalign? Invisalign can straighten teeth quicker than traditional braces. Most patients are finished with treatment in just one to two years, while traditional braces can take up to three years to yield significant results. -Are Clear Aligners More Expensive Than Braces? Invisalign is typically more expensive than getting braces because of the lab fees involved in creating the aligners.
